Suzume, the latest anime film from Makoto Shinkai (Your Name, Weathering with You, etc) is playing in theaters, and I made plans to see it together with Jackson and Wally.
While planning, I noticed that there is am axe throwing location near the theater. I jokingly suggesting that we go there before the movie, and Jackson decided we should definitly go, so I went ahead and got tickets for that in addition to the movie.
We met up at Wallys house, who had been awake for a full 30 seconds before we arrived. We talked for a bit while they set up some hard drives to backup their archive of vintage console roms.
We all piled into my clown car, and we got underway.
After a slightly damp drive, we arrived at the axe throwing location. Upon entering, we were asked to pick our lumberjack name, of whick there was a sheet with examples.
They were all puns

After a quick overview by girl overseeing the axetivities, we made a couple spent some time practising. It took a bit to get used to, but the main trick was actually to not try and throw the axe super hard, and just let the weight of the axe provide the momentum instead.
They had various games, such as a balloon popping game (projected on the board), and a zombie game. We competed as 2 teams, taking turns which team had 1 or 2 people.
For some reason, I ended up being weirdly good at it (channeling my viking ancesors, I guess?) and after a couple clutch throws, I ended up the axe throwing champion.
It was a short drive to the theater from the axe throwing location, and we arrived right on time for the movie, and right after it had started to rain a bit.
Suzume
In abandoned places through Japan, there are doors where the feelings and anxieties and those that once resided there spill through in the form of a giant worm, which causes earthquakes as it attempts to return to the world.
Suzume stumbles upon one of these doors, and accidentally undoes the seal. She then teams up with the closer, who was responsible for maintaining the seal, to track down the keystone turned mischevious god, in order to seal the doors once more.
Along the way, Suzume confronts the trauma of her past, from the descrution of her home and the loss of her mother.
After the movie, we went to the rotating sushi resteraunt. I didn't take any pictures but you probbaly know what sushi looks like at this point. We then went back to Wally's house to talk more, and also ended up using AI to turn my lumperjack champion photo into a parody assasins creed game cover.
