It's that time of year again! Global Game Jam, where people from all over the world gather to make a game in 48 hours.
Like last year, Wally, Jackson and I got a hotel together. We also brought Wally's future clutch for Jackson to sleep on; a bring your own roll away bed if you will.
I drove up together with Wally, and though we were running a bit late, we managed to arrive just in time for the keynote to start. This year, it was held in the Cleveland foundation next door to the tech hive, which had a nice big auditorium.
Of course, there was also food

Just like every year, the keynote was a mix of feel good developer talks and absolutely unhinged animation segments. After various creepy clown imagery, the theme was announced as "make me Laugh".
After the keynote, Wally and I wandered around talking to the various teams forming to share ideas. Wally wanted to do some kind of social experiment game, which might result in a prison sentence.
My idea was to create a horror game, where you were jump-scared by jokes. kind of like spookys house of jump-scares. I also would be using Godot this year. I had done some basic stuff, but this would be the first "complete" game I made.
After helping clean up at the Cleveland Foundation, we made our way to the hotel. Bobby and colin were also staying at the hotel, so since it was still still earlyish, we set up our development envionrments in the hotel lobby to get a jump start on work. Wally also ordered a late night pizza. He got an alfredo pizza for me, which was swell.
I mostly worked on creating a suitably horrifying dungeon tilset for my game, which had by this point evolved into a escape room type game, where you would play as a clown that had been locked in a dungeon for his clown crimes and had to escape.
After working until 1am or so, we headed to bed.
