We spent the morning eating a leisurely breakfast, while looking for something interesting to do in the area. This day was originally going to be spent hiking to the active volcano, but it had gone back to sleep before our trip. I also thought of going back to the Thríhnúkagígur Volcano (the one you can go inside), but it was fully booked for all of October.

We settled on going to the Krýsuvík Geothermal Area, which has a bunch of sulfur vents and stuff. We would also be driving through the Reykjanesfólkvangur Nature Preserve to get to it, which should give some nice views.

I wanted to charge the car before setting out, so we drove to a charge point that was on the way in Njardvik. We had some difficulty finding it, and when we did find it there was already a car charging. The connector for our car was available, but we learned that apparently the charge point is only capable of charging one car at a time, and won't even let you queue the process so it starts when the other person leaves.

We then tried driving to another nearby charge point which turned out to not exist. Finally, we decided to just go and hope that the charge point listed in Grindavik was actually real.

The charge point was indeed real, but then we had some difficulty actually using it. It required, yet again, a new app and then in order to actually add my card it had to do a send a 2 factor authentication text, but I did not have the capability of recieving texts. We ended up having to use Jackson's card through the app on Wally's phone to actually get the damn thing to work.

For the most part, the experience of using an electric car in Iceland was great, but the app centric infrastructre really drags the whole concept down. There should really be a single standard method of paying for charging that does not require an app.

Anyway, once we got the car charging, we set out to find some food. We tried going to a nearby restaurant, but the doors were locked, despite being listed as open on google maps

Next we tried another restaurant, which turned out to be more like an ice cream / candy store, but they had crepes, so we all tried one.

After eating, I had to go to the nearby gas station to use the bathroom. It also turned out that you had to either pay to use the bathroom, or buy something, so I bought a cookie.

Jackson picked me up, and we continued on to the geothermal area. Some of the drive there was along the same road we had drive on the previous night to get to Keflavik, so it was nice seeing it during the day.

After we arrived, we proceeded to explore the fart zone.

After we met back up in the parking lot, Wally tried to use tha bathroom but it turned out they were closed, so we were going to need to find another location that would have a bathroom. Unfortunately, it seemed like the prospects of finding anything anywhere nearby were quite slim.

We continued north along road 42, which gave some nice views of the Kleifarvatn lake. Along the way, we spotted a place you could park on the side of the road to walk around a rocky shore area. There were also numerous places where one could do some private business...

While answering the call of nature, Wally found a small cave along the shore, which we all went to take a look at.

We were all very exited about our discovery, since it was something cool we found on our own. It also spoke to our caveman soul; Here we could make our home, safe from the elements.

We left the nature preserve behind and headed to the north of Keflavík to see the Garður Old Lighthouse, which had been recommended by the guesthouse owner.

Near the lighthouse was a museum and restaurant. At this point, it was starting to rain so our desire to do outside activities as waning fast, but we took a quick look around before heading in for dinner.

Don't talk to me or my son ever again

We headed into the restaurant for dinner.

Fish n Chips, but fancy
My pain is far greater than yours!

We finished up dinner, and headed back to the hotel.

Lighthouse doing it's job for once

We spent some time hanging out in the lounge watching stuff on the TV. We were originally going to try and watch star wars, but weren't able to get the screen casting to work so we eventualy settled for watching various science youtubers, such as Michael Reeves, William Osman, Kyle Hill, and Integza.

I was able to get some blogging done while we watched as well.
