I attended a concert by the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, in Severance Hall.
I went with Alena and her friend Kate. This was Kate’s first concert, and the first song by Mahler she head heard, so it was really fun explaining weird orchestra stuff.
On the way, we got lunch at Panera Bread, and talked about music theory and Dungeons and Dragons.

The program for the concert:
- Guillaume Connesson – Flammenschrift (Flame Writing)
- An interesting modern piece. It had a lot of moments that reminded me of Stravinsky.
- Maurice Ravel – Sheherazade
- A piece by Ravel I didn’t know about. It featured a solo soprano, and was all around lovely, but apparently the lyrics were kind of messed up.
- Gustav Mahler – Symphony No. 1, Titan
- What can I say, Mahler is great. It was a good performance, and there was 10 minute standing ovation at the end.
