In the morning, we took a ferry from Miyajimaguchi to Miyajima

After arriving on the island, we explored around the Itsukushima shrine, which is partially built in the bay, and is suspended over the water at high tide.

The island is covered in tame deer, which wander around eating the belongings of careless tourists. They are pretty cute though.

We got to stick a yen coin into the giant torii gate, which you can walk up to at low tide.

It was a bit of a walk to get to the ropeway station, though the signs were very helpful.

We reached the ropeway and began the harrowing aerial journey to the top.

We reached the top safely. It turns out it was going to be a bit more of a hike to reach the true top, and we decided to go for it.

We reached a small shrine. Mom decided to stay here and rest while Alena and I continued to the top.

After making our way back down the mountain, we walked around Kiyomori-dōri for a bit. It was a lively area with street stalls and shops.
For lunch, we stopped at a small food stall, and I had Karsudan: a pork cutlet and egg over rice. It was delicious, and probably my second favorite Japanese food.

Before we left, we took one last opportunity to pet the deer.

They are pretty cute, when they aren't attempting to eat your belongings.
