Today was the finale of NASA's DART mission, Where NASA threw a space probe at a space rock just to see what happens.
In the future, there is a high possibility that we will discover a civilization ending asteroid on a collision course with earth. Right now, the best chance we have would be to try and deflect it. This mission is the first step towards developing such a defense defense.
I watched the livestream together with Walley, Nick, and Tyler in the love live server voice chat. It was really fun getting hyped together with other people, while making space jokes.
"Since we hit that asteroid with a probe (like 30 seconds ago), the human race hasn't been wiped out by an asteroid impact even once, so I would call that mission success!"
Look at them rocks. Space rocks.
I'm sure any future asteroids will think twice before messing with us now.
